Michael Cope is the founder and retired CEO and Chairman of Interphase Corporation, a Dallas computer hardware manufacturer of high speed networking and data storage related products, sold via OEM relationships with major computer systems, telecommunication and networking companies.

After founding Interphase in 1974, Michael established it as the preeminent player in its market niche, lead it through a successful IPO in 1984 and a secondary public offering in 1991, as well as a strategic investment by Motorola in 1988.  During his tenure,  Interphase grew from a self-funded Dallas startup to a public technology company with over 300 employees and an international presence, and  was named to the INC 500, the INC 200, and the FORBES 200 Best Run Small Companies in America.  Mike was twice honored as an Entrepreneur-of-the-Year finalist.  Today Interphase is still an independent public company.

Since retiring in 1994, Michael has pursued a wide range of business interests and has helped multiple new start-up companies get off the ground. Combining his technical background with market positioning, corporate infrastructure and financing experience, he often serves as a coach/advisor to CEOs, or a technical advisor to investors.  He serves on Corporate and Advisory Boards for several companies, for which in some cases he is also an investor.  He is also a member of the Dallas Angels, who act as “angel” investors and advisors to many North Texas start-ups.

Michael attended Vanderbilt University (BEEE 1969), and is a Board Registered Professional Engineer.  Prior to founding Interphase, he worked for Texas Instruments, General Medical Systems and Teleswitcher, and was Co-founder of Avicon Development Group.  He holds 46 US and international patents in the area of networking technology.  As an early and influential player in the computer industry, he is considered a friend and colleague by many well known computer industry luminaries.

His interests include scuba diving, sailing, trail running, music, cooking and travel. Michael, his wife Suzi and their dog Jib live on Lake Grapevine in SouthLake, Texas part of the year,  and part of the year live in the Caribbean on their sailboat
Awakening,  a 43 foot Catana sailing Catamaran.  Michael, Suzi and Jib widely sail from their homeport in Puerto Rico and cruise the Spanish, US and British Virgin Islands as well as the Leeward Islands and other islands of the Caribbean, and will be expanding their cruising grounds throughout the Caribbean as time goes on.

Now-a-days Michael is also Jib's personal videographer and webmaster.
